Leaving The Frame Of The Camera:
You must request permission to leave your camera framing by posting "leaving" to everyone in the ZOOM's chat, and not just to the referee. You can only quit on your opponent's move. If the other player has time to make their move before the referee responds to your request, you must play yours before leaving. Rules And Protocol Of Discussion For Online LIVE Tournaments At Negotiated Time
Rules And Protocol Of Discussion For Online LIVE Tournaments At Negotiated Time
- General: We play negotiated chess games. This implies that each pair of players must find a common, suitable day and time to start their games. For this purpose, the players must use their Discussion Forum, as a Discussion Forum will be created for each pair of players. When discussing, only the starting day / time of the game will be considerred, never its duration. A round lasts 1 week and starts Monday @ 12:00AM ET and ends on Sunday @ 9:00PM ET, with some exceptions. We use the Eastern Time (ET; Nwe-York; Montreal) in all our discussions. The pairings are posted on Sunday at ±22h00 ET. The players must show up in their Negotiation Forum as soon as possible after the pairings are posted. This is crucial.
- The Initial Proposals (IP): The player who is first to enter the Negotiation Forum must necessarily make at least 3 IPs of day / time to start the game. The 3 IPs must meet the following criteria.
- There must be at least 3 hours between 2 starting day / time for the game.
- There must at least 24 hours between the earliest and the latest starting day / time for the game.
- There must be at least 24 hours between posting an IP and the starting day / time for the game related to that same IP.
- Accepting an IP or, if accepting is impossible;
- Make at least 3 IPs of his own, in respect with the 3 points developped above.
- There must be at least 12 hours between the acceptance of a proposals (initial ou not) and the associated starting day / time of the game.
- The player must respond within 12 hours after the the player or the moderator has posted.
- There is no need to confirm anything when a proposal (initial or not) is accepted. Both players has the responsibility to show up for the game.
- The useful trick: The following statement is equivalent to making 2 IPs. «I can start a game on a certain day, starting anytime between XX:YY and XX +3h:YY». In other words, when you offer to start a game anytime between 2 times eparated by 3 hours, you have 2 IPs. In this case, the player who accepts such a proposal must chose a precise time that is included in the interval offrered.
- The deadline: The players must fulfill their obligation to make 3 IPs or to accept an IP by Wednesday at 12:00AM ET. Otherwise the forfeit loss is automatic for the faulty player and the Negotiation Forum will close.
- No agreement after 6 IPs (3 by each player): If after the two players have made their 3 IPs no agreement is reached, the players will gine the other their phone numbers and will try to get an over the phone agreement. They may also continue the discussions in their DiscussionForum as well. In the event that an agreement is impossible, the two players will post in their Discussion Forum and the moderator will call the game «draw because of no agreement».
- Language: In the case where the players does not speak the same language, they will include a translation of their post.
- The game: All the games are played at «LIVE chess», on Chess.com. On the date and time mentionned in the agreement, the players must show up in «LIVE chess» on Chess.com and / or offer the opponent a game in accordance with the time control and the color assignment. After the game, the winner must report the result of the game in his / her Discussion Forum and post a link that leads to it.. Note that a period of grace of 10 minutes is allowed to the late player.
- Forfeiting the game: Forfeiting occurs in the following cases.
- The player did not show up for the game, or after the period of grace.
- The player did not fulfill their obligation to make at least 3 IPs or to accept an IP by Wednesday @ 12:00AM ET.
- Because one of the players was unable / unwilling to comply with our Protocol of Discussion, it became impossible to agree and play.
- The player requests a change regarding an agreement and as result, no game is played.
- The player omits to request a BYE when they are not available to play the round or to make us aware that they abandon the tournament.
- The player's ID parameters prevented him / her from accepting the opponent's game offer and as a result, no game is played.
- Rudeness.
- The consequences: The player who forfeits the game may be disqualifed for the rest of the tournament. In addition, Chess Ovation may suspend or even ban the recidivist.
- BYE: The deadline to requet a BYE is Sunday @ 12:00PM ET.
- Cheating: Using a chess engine, chess databases, whether electronic or printed, books or the assistance of a third, is forbidden and will ban the participant from any tournament organised by Chess Ovation, whether physical or online for 2 years. In addition Chess Ovation may disqualify the participant if there is reasonable grounds to believe that the participant is cheating or attempting to do so. It is alo accepted that the games played during our tournaments, as well as games not related to it, will be reviewed by the sophisticated Chess.com's Fair Play System.
- ZOOM: You share your camera through ZOOM Meetings (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83625844577?pwd=VkdzY1NIMGxrRkg5Mm9nWFR6MUk0Zz09; Meeting ID: 836 2584 4577; Passcode: 856652). The camera must be located at the rear/side of the player at an angle of approximately 110°. You can use a smartphone as device to connect to ZOOM in order to not overload the computer. Make sure that you plug your phone in 110/120V so that you have enough power for the entire game.
- Chessboard: It is permitted to use a physical chessboard to play the game (and probably a good idea as well!) as long as the player does not use it to test variations during the game. A piece touched must remain a piece played. The player should make sure that the sound of the computer is turned ON so that the player is aware when the opponent plays a move.
